Reflexology

is the ultimate Complementary to Medicine Holistic Therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, ears to stimulate corresponding areas of the body. Reflexology'c ancient roots come from very far past times, yet the modern history of Reflexology can e traced back to the 20th century.

Let's look into some history

The oldest documentation of Reflexology is found in Egypt, where Egyptian artists observed any recorded scenes of daily life which included medical practices of the time. In the year 2500BC, images of medical practitioners massaging feet, hand and ears of their clients were depicted on walls and papyrus. Archeology history reports Ankhamahor's tomb as the first ever place where archeologists discovered representations of Reflexology performance. He was, in fact, a physician of very high esteem who treated his patients using Holistic methods in addition to medicine. In Europe, instead, was impacted by Reflexology Zone Therapy only in the 14th century.

Complete development of Modern Reflexology, though, happens quite later in the 20th century when Dr William Fitzgerald (North America 1872-1942) was credited as the Father of Modern Reflexology. He was, in fact, the one to discover the Zone Therapy practiced by Red Indians amongst which several of their tribes used pressure strategies to the feet as a source of real healing. Meanwhile, Jenny Wallace (North Carolina), red blooded Cherokee, was informing people telling the story of her tribe's father who always greatly enhanced the power of healing stored in feet. She reported he said Red Indians of his time would say: "feet are connected to the Earth which is connected to the universe. Since feet touch the ground to walk on Earth, they are able to absorb all the energy flow of the universe itself through it." Some decades later, Eunice Ingham (Florida 1879-1974), was the first one to map the feet to spot all system and organs corresponding reflexes. Together with Dr Relay, Eunice started to practise it on people. Although results were amazing, doctors of medicine refused to be really interested in it, so she began to share all her knowledge with people sharing all the trick of her treatments with the population suggesting the use of Reflexology as a real cure for a vast range of illnesses.

She was so passionate that she also wrote three books:

Stories the Feet Can Tell

Stories the Feet Have Told

Stories the Feet Are Telling

When she died in 1974, her nephew Dwight Byers took over until 2020. He dedicated all his life to Reflexology and research to prove the Therapy's full effectiveness.

From 1950 on, many educational institutions initiated journeys of Reflexology certifications. Finally, students could become professional reflexologists using the amazing therapy as an alternative cure. Reflexology associations and organizations, such as the Reflexology Association of America (RAA)and the International Council of Reflexology (ICR) where established to promote the practice, set standards and provide education and certifications.

Reflexology was finally incorporated to the body of Alternative Medicine practices. Now a days, Reflexologists offer it alongside conventional medicine and doctors address patients to approach it with positive attitude as an effective healing therapy. In the first place, Reflexology provides relaxation and wellness, routes to reinforce immune system responses and boost healing processes. Reflexology is now known as "The Ultimate Holistic Therapy" and its path promises more remarkable achievements.

The founders of the Ontario College of Reflexology were hosts to the first International Council of Reflexology conference in Toronto, Canada 1990. Professor Donald Bisson, Dean of OCR, has dedicated his entire life to expand the education of Reflexology worldwide.
